This network was designed in consultation with local people living with MS and MS healthcare professionals and aims to help those newly diagnosed better manage their condition by:
GMMSIN comprises this website of publicly available resources specifically curated for people newly diagnosed with MS.
GMMSIN also hosts a private Facebook community group exclusively for patients of the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurology (MCCN) which provides access to MS healthcare professionals from MCCN and support from others living with MS.
GMMSIN also hosts an instagram feed of publicly available resources specifically curated for people newly diagnosed with MS.

There is evidence that similar projects working with other health conditions have had positive health outcomes. As far as we know this is the first project of its kind to work with people living with MS. Accordingly, the University of Salford is responsible for evaluating how effectively the GMMSIN network achieves its stated aims. It will do so by collecting data, surveys and interviews, from those patients of MCCN who participate in the Facebook community group. The study runs from December 2024 to April 2026.We hope that this study will provide evidence for long term funding for the network. A research report based on this evidence collected will be produced and made publicly available in May 2026.
The GMMSIN network is overseen by an Advisory Group that meets regularly.
This Group comprises health and academic experts in the field of MS and health related digital media interventions, representatives from the MS Society and Positive about MS. Its purpose is to ensure there is good governance of the GMMSIN and to provide guidance and support when required. It is chaired by Professor Paula Ormandy from the University of Salford.
GMMSIN is a joint venture between the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurology (based at Salford Royal NHS Trust Hospital and part of the NHS Northern Care Alliance), the University of Salford and Positive about MS. It has been funded by the MS Society.
